66% More Bluefin Last Year Says NOAA

Angling Category Way Over Quota in 2009 on Bluefin Landings

Here are the 2009 Bluefin tuna landings as reported by HMS / NMFS. Note that the Angling category went way over quota landing 565.9 metric tons on a quota of 260.6 metric tons. Most of the overage occurred in the large school - small medium sized fish which are 60lb to less than 235lb tuna. This matches up with the size of the fish in two large cohorts we are seeing off the Carolinas in the Winter and North along the Mid Atlantic and North East states in summer.
