Dear members of SaveTheBluefin and anyone else that may visit the site - please show your support for the below letter to the Chairman of ICCAT (the organization for setting policy on bluefin tuna) by leaving a comment on the site.
This week, the
ICCAT (International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas) meets in Marrakesh, Morocco to discuss the severe situation of the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna and its collapsing stocks. The Atlantic Bluefin is in real trouble as the policies governing the stocks, the commercial fisherman who fill the quotas, enforcement and penalties for illegal acts must come under an overhaul if the bluefin are to survive. Any simple google search on
"bluefin tuna" will produce a long list of links pointing to the severity of the situation and the rampant overfishing that is still taking place.
The Chairman of ICCAT, Doctor Fabio Hazin, has a big job to do this week in Marrakesh as he hopefully steers the ICCAT and the bluefin's future into safer waters. To show our support I would like to communicate to Dr. Hazin the following message;
Dear Dr. Hazin:
As the founding member of SaveTheBluefin.com and a citizen of a global community who cares about the plight of the bluefin tuna, I and the other members of this site, wish you the best this week in your meetings. Please know that in addition to governing bodies of countries and other major stake holders in your sphere of influence - that there are groups of concerned people all over the world counting on you to play a major role in helping shape policies that will give the bluefin a fighting chance to survive in 2009 and beyond. I launched this site because I could not stand idle while the last of the bluefin were being slaughtered without sufficient protection. I do believe my voice counts as do the others on this site and have all hope that the bluefin tuna will not go extinct on my watch as a human being living on this earth. Please help me to realize this goal and let me know if there is anything I can do to help you achieve success this week and into the future.
Best Regards,
John LoGioco
friend of the bluefin
