The
Canyon Runner fleet is putting on a clinic catching yellowfin tuna this year in the Hudson Canyon. We are all happy to see the fish return after the last 2 seasons as Capt. Mark & Co. are consistently limiting out on yellowfin, bringing back tired and beat up charters. Here is a great quote from Adam LaRosa on a recent fishing
report from early July,
"The boys were actually running away from the yellowfin looking for a marlin or big-eye but couldn’t shake off the hungry schools of yellowfin tuna. The came home with the 15 in the box and another 16 released with most of those released with tags."
Once the charter has enough meat in the box, they engage in tagging. Tagging yellowfin is crucial for our fishery, especially here in New Jersey/Mid-Atlantic Bight, as we need more data to work on the international stages for yellowfin conservation. As a reminder, any boat can tag yellowfin and we are looking for more boats who want to help. If you are interested in tagging yellowfin you can email savethebluefintuna@gmail.com for the easy steps to get started. Way to go guys! Your efforts are greatly appreciated. I hope all those tagging anglers like their "Tagging Member" care packages. See a video of the creation and contents of the "Tagging Member" care packages that anglers receive from tagging their yellowfin
here.
More "Tagging Member" care packages will be on the way.
