Japan A Mess At CITES; Defeated Shark Conservation, Has China Opposing Bluefin Ban

Japan needs to be stopped. They have outright said they will ignore a ban but meanwhile they are organizing nations like China to oppose a ban and defeat protection. This comes as Japan, Russia and China gathered enough vote from emerging countries to defeat shark conservation measures. This attack on our ocean wildlife is unacceptable. People need to speak up!

USA Today is reporting that the US/EU coalition is breaking up. There are also reports that Arab nations have lined up behind Japan. China is throwing its weight around. Australia and Peru are backing weakened measures. I think it is 'game over'.

Get ready for more of the same- ICCAT will be managing our fish by ignoring the advice of its own science.

That said, I don't think this will be a complete loss. There is much awareness... and another CITES meeting in two years.
