Hi All,
Thank you all for your dedicated tagging efforts. In addition to tagging, please remember to keep an eye out for bluefin that are already carrying a tag!!!
We are extremely grateful for all reported tag recaptures! In addition to helping with the science, for recaptures of tags put out as part of our Atlantic-wide GBYP tagging program, there are rewards for these returned tags from $50 to $1000. This month, we had 2 GBYP recaptures of fish that were tagged off Spain a year ago and were recaptured off of NJ and Long Island. Very exciting!!!
I have attached the reward poster below. If you catch a tagged fish, please: 1) cut off the tag, 2) measure the fish (curved fork length), 3) record the date and lat/long of recapture, 4) if re-releasing the fish, re-tag it with a new tag if possible, 5) contact us to report the recapture.

Thanks!

Comment by John LoGioco on August 5, 2012 at 11:02am Thanks Emily for posting this. One of our members did catch a bluefin with an ICCAT tag here in NJ which is great to see. Hope we can catch some more for you. I am encouraging folks to cut any tags off and re-tag the tuna.
