Why is it that recreational Tuna fishermen target small Tuna and load up with more than enough that they could possibly eat ??

Why not just catch and release ?

Hi Mark - good thoughts here. Anglers can keep one bluefin this year per boat, per trip from 27 to 73 inches. Outside of that all others must be released. The catch and release program is designed specifically to address this situation. Thanks for posting. Do you fish for bluefin?

I have fished as a mate for a summer on a commercial fishing boat in the Northeast. And I am an avid Bay fisherman. As I have gotten older I have come to realize what a tragedy it would be to loose this species. I think this fishery should be a catch and release only for at least 10 years to totally rebuild. As far as poaching goes that is a whole other post.

Hi Mark - I like your passion and agree that a future with more bluefin tuna is a great one. This is exactly why I started the catch and release program - which btw is supported by major sponsors like West Marine and influential charter, private and commercial fishermen. Many people want the same end result, and our job as a global team is to try and get there. Your voice helps so thanks!
